About Roma Finance
Roma Finance was founded in 2008 by Scott Marshall, the managing director who remains at its helm today. The name carries personal meaning — Roma is named after Scott's grandparents, Rose and Max, and the business retains that family feel despite its significant growth over nearly 17 years. Scott completed the first Roma loan by taking equity out of his own family home; that personal stake in outcomes has shaped the culture ever since.
Roma underwrites the borrower before the property — a deliberate inversion of the criteria-first approach many lenders take. The team wants to understand who it is dealing with, what they are trying to achieve, and whether the plan makes sense. That judgement-led model has supported some unusual and complex deals that mainstream lenders would never have touched, and it explains why Roma has built a loyal repeat borrower base.
The loan book now exceeds £175 million, supported by ten institutional funding lines including a £100 million facility from NatWest secured in early 2025. The RomaFLOW bridging channel — a streamlined legal and underwriting track for standard bridging and light refurbishment cases — completes over 80% of applications within 28 days. The business holds the record for a 5.5-hour completion from loan offer to drawdown.
